Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize.

There is no way -- no way -- I was expecting this. The whole of the media are in complete shock this morning. But it's true, Barack Obama is the 2009 winner of the Nobel Prize for Peace.

I'm ... there's no words.

Wow. Maybe they should've waited until he actually enacted change domestically (without backing down to the Blue Dogs)? Until he pulled the troops from Iraq, and made some attempt at quelling the Sunni/Shia civil war there? Until he made progress on undoing the damage of Bush's horrendous diplomacy gaffes with regard to Iran and North Korea? Until he figured out a way to staunch the Afghan bleeding? Or at least until he did one of the above?

Just wow. I can't wait to see Ted Rall's next cartoon. :)

I have to admit I'm boggled, BriguyHFX. Unless the Nobel Committee in Oslo that picks the winner was trying to send a message that this is a complete repudiation of everything Bush Jr. stood for (unnecessary, as previous winners during the two terms included Jimmy Carter, Al Gore and Mohammed Al-Baradi).

I also don't buy the story that the White House "situation room" only found out after the announcement. Usually, the committees that announce the Nobel winners give the laureates a heads-up call an hour before (or try to) and there's someone at the WH switchboard 24/7 for emergencies or other "surprises."

the committee who votes on who receives Nobel Peace prizes every year (whoever they want), so it would be silly on more levels than one to be critical of this situation
